Avante Coureur (AC) is the institute’s annual fest which is held in the month of January every year. It was first celebrated in the year 2012 with a very limited number of faculty and staff and the first batch of students. Thereafter, GIMT-Tezpur family conducts the college fest every year which witnesses active participation of both students and staff of the institute. Following the trend of previous years, this year AC 2k16 was held from 27th January to 29th January’16. The festival was held with a number of outdoor and indoor sports, tournaments, computer gaming, girls’ special competitions, literary and cultural competitions both at inter and intra-college level. The main attraction of AC 2K16 was the MR. & MISS AVANTE COUREUR’16’, ‘ROCK SHOW’ and ‘DJ BRAHMIN’. Besides these, other regional artists and bands were also invited to perform in the event. Together the students and other staff of the institute made the annual college fest a grand success and rejoiced together till the end.

The 18th National Security day was observed in the premises of Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology – Tezpur on 4th March, 2016 through a day long programme. On the occasion a run themed “Run for Peace and Security” was conducted with the cooperation of SSB, Indian Air Force, Rajya and ZilaSainik Board - Assam and Edupur Society. There was overwhelming response from the participants wherein around 300 participants from various schools and colleges took part in the run. The run was flagged off by DC of Sonitpur Disrtict, Ms. LayaMadduri and attended byDr.BiswarupSaikia, Principal and Capt. (IN)M. K. Das (Retd), Dean (Admin.), GIMT-Tezpur along with representatives from other organizations.Sportsperson of national and international repute from the SSB along with athletes from Indian Air Force accompanied the participants and inspired them during the run. PalausBage and UtpalBarla of Tezpur College secured the first and second position while Santosh Kr. Sharma of Darrang College secured the third position.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest for the day, Mr. TseringDorjai, Deputy Inspector General, SSB, Salonibari, encouraged the students to actively participate in the nation building process and contribute towards the peace and stability of the country. The Guest of Honour, Group Captain P R Prasad, Chief Administrative Officer, Air Force station, Goroimari emphasised that as a citizen of the country one should develop a strong feeling of nationalism so that external agencies are not able the disturb the peace and security of the country. The function was ended with a vote of thanks by Capt. (IN) M. K. Das (Retd.), Dean (Admin.), GIMT-Tezpur and Capt. L. Bhuyan (Retd.), Welfare Officer, ZilaSainik Board, Sonitpur.

A photography club named as ‘ZOOMERSZIG’ has been formed in GIMT-Tezpur on 28th February, 2016 to give a platform to the budding photography talents of GIMT fraternity. The club was inaugurated on the day of National Science day by Dr. Ramesh Chandra Goswami. On that occasion a photography exhibition was conducted in the college premises and various photographs captured by the students and faculty members were displayed.

The Department of Mathematics, GIMT-Tezpur organised pi-Day on 14th March, 2016 by inviting renowned scholar Prof. Nayandeep Deka Baruah from Tezpur University. The whole event was an overall successful one with maximum student’s participation which showed that math can be fun, that it is relevant to real life and can even be hands-on.

India is a multi-religious, multi-lingual and multi-cultural country. In order to maintain unity in diversity in the country it becomes one’s moral responsibility to respect the traditions and recognize the culture of the others. Every tradition or culture has its own uniqueness and beauty. With the aim to inculcate the feeling of respect for all the traditions and cultures, GIMT-Tezpur organises “Ethnic Day” on 3rd week of April every year.

A visit to the grinding plant of Star Cement, Guwahati was undertaken on November 31st 2015 by the Department of civil engineering, GIMT, Tezpur
The overall aim of this visit was to acquaint the students with the technology involved in the manufacturing of cement.All the 7th semester students accompanied by our 3 faculty members started our journey from Tezpur to the Grinding plant of Star cement located at ChamataPathar of Kamrup district.Theyalso visited the packaging plant which has an annual capacity of 1.6 million Tons. It manufactures Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC 43-Grade) and Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC) and (OPC 53-Grade) cement.

A blood donation camp was also organized on the same occasion of National Science Day, 2016 by GIMT-Tezpur in association with Tezpur Medical College & Hospital. A lot of willing volunteers eagerly participated in this event.

In order to create enthusiasm among the students and to promote science and technology to strengthen scientific tamper among the masses as the prime important, GIMT-Tezpur celebrated National Science Day, 2016 with a day long program. Students from different colleges and schools of the entire region have participated to the multifaceted program embraced by myriad of competitions such as Open Science Quiz, Science Model Making Competition; Science based Debate Competition, Photography exhibition, pi-genius etc.
National award winning scholar Dr. R.C. Goswami delivered a series of lectures on the theme ‘Recent Development in Science & Technology.’
President award winning junior innovator Mr. Swapnanil Talukdar delivered an inspirational speech on the theme ‘Innovation & Social Need.’
Eminent scientist and academicians working in research institute, regional laboratory, academic institutes, science & technology based NGOs also participated in the event.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between CIPET, Guwahati and GIMT-Tezpur with an aim to make learning avenues available in the field of Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing to the students of the institute. CIPET, Guwahati and GIMT-Tezpur have agreed to work together to impart training to students of Mechanical and Civil Engineering discipline. In the initial phase of the programme, 25 students of Mechanical Engineering have been trained in AutoCAD by CIPET faculty members at GIMT-Tezpur. Similar programmes have been planned for the future.

The department of Humanities, GIMT-Tezpur organized a two day workshop on placement oriented communication & Soft skills development on 31st March & 1st April’ 2016 for the final year students of the institute with two resource persons from GIMT-Ghy. The main objective of the workshop was to let the aspiring engineers get acquainted with the corporate expectations and give them a platform where they can practice and enhance their communication skills and get prepared to face GDs and PIs with confidence and achieve themselves good positions in their career. The workshop was a successful event with maximum students’ active participation.

On 27th of February, 2016 a workshop on ‘Linux’ was organized in GIMT-Tezpur where Mr. Champak Deka of Kaziranga University shared his vast knowledge of the operating software with the faculties of GIMT-Tezpur. The day long programme included a presentation on the fundamentals of ‘Linux’ and practice session for the participants.
WORKSHOP on “Matlab & Image Processing”
On 20th - 21st of August, 2015 a workshop on ‘Matlab and Image processing’ was organised in the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering as part of Robothlon, 2015 where many interested students participated and got the opportunity to qualify for the National level championship.

A workshop on “Engineering Application of UV-Visible Spectroscopy & Its Future Prospects” was organised by Department of Chemistry in Association with SAMPRITI Publication, Guwahati on 30th April, 2016. Dr. Kusum K Bania, Asst. Professor, Department of Chemical Science, Tezpur University and Dr. P. Gogoi of Tezpur University shared their knowledge as resource person.
