The National Board of Accreditation (NBA), India was established by AICTE (All India Council of Technical Education) in 1994 for periodic evaluations of Technical / Engineering institutions & programmes offered by various technical / Engineering institutions across our country according to the specified norms and standards as recommended by AICTE. In the year of 2010 (Appx), the then HRD minister announcement made National Board of Accreditation (NBA) an independent / autonomous body from AICTE. The National Board of Accreditation has since become an Independent Society constituted under the Registrar of Cooperative Societies and on 13th June 2014 National Board of Accreditation, India has become the permanent signatory member of the Washington Accord. The Washington Accord is an International Agreement among bodies responsible for accrediting technical / engineering programs from various countries. The programmes accredited by these member bodies symbolises the generous equivalency of programs. Also it recommends that the graduates of programs accredited by any of the signatory bodies be recognized by the other bodies, as having met the academic requirements for entry to the practice of engineering in their respective country. Thus the membership of Washington Accord is an international standard recognition of the quality of technical / engineering programme offered by the member country and is a boulevard to bring it into the world standard class. Thus it pledge students studying in NBA accredited Institutions that they will receive education which is a steadiness between high academic quality and professional importance and that the needs of the corporate world are well incorporated into programmes, activities and processes. Focusing on the criteria which are based on outcome based education and considering it is relevancy towards now-a-days professional world and with a goal to reach world standard, GIMT-Tezpur has also initiated the process to be affiliated by NBA-India within next two-three years.
