GIMT

The Department of Physics was established in the year 2011 right from the inception of the college and since then, we have grown into a strong and vibrant department with eminent faculty vigorously pursuing world-class research. Our students have access to state-of-the-art teaching laboratories and are involved in innovative research projects in our research labs. As per the B.E. syllabus of ASTU, Physics subject is compulsory for first and second semesters.

The department has been imparting knowledge of Physics by classroom teaching and laboratory experiments. It has adequate facilities to support the teaching activities. The department inspires the students effectively in the subject for engineering applications. It also facilitates the students providing helpful suggestions in conducting projects related to Physics. Experienced as well as highly qualified faculty members amount to an attraction for the students.

    Dr. Ramesh Chandra Goswami,
Professor & Head of the department
Unequivocally, Physics is the king of all branches of Science. The study of Physics dates back to 600 B C when the great Indian philosopher Kanada advanced a proposition on the constituents of matter in his own thinking. The rapid development, however, started with the oncoming of the western science in which Greek philosopher-scientist Lucretius pioneered in the same context. The discernible development indeed galloped from the dawn of the 20th century when the real genius Einstein propounded the theory of relativity, both special and general. With the advent of special theory came the atomic energy followed by space exploration, leave the other arenas though important. Down to the grass root, the study of the particle world gave the scientists incredible knowledge of matter.

Yet there is no end, no limit to which knowledge of Physics may satisfy the quest of mankind.

Study of Engineering and Technology certainly demands clear basic knowledge of Physics in particular in order to strengthening the base of the students. Any branch of Engineering, in one way or the other, related to at least a few of the concepts of Physics. Our Department is more or less well equipped with the facilities to impart the teaching of Physics (both theoretical and practical) to the undergraduate students of Engineering.
