The department of Electrical Engineering was established in GIMT Tezpur the year 2012 with an intake of 60 students. The department offers 4 years B.tech programme (8 semesters) in Electrical Engineering which is affiliated to Assam Science and Technology University (ASTU) and approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The department has a meticulously planned curriculum, which includes practical understanding, seminars, industrial training, projects, etc and imparts high quality education and research. The main aim of the department is advancement of the frontiers of knowledge in Electrical Engineering and to provide the students with a stimulating and rewarding learning experience.
Salient Features of the Department:

• The department was pioneered by Late Prof. P.C. Goswami, Retired Deputy Director, RRL (NEIST) Jorhat & Ex. faculty of Jorhat Engineering College having more than 4 decades of experience in the field of research and teaching.
• The department has fully equipped Electrical machines, Measurement, Instrumentation, Control system, Power Electronics, Power System, Microprocessor and Electronics laboratories which will enable students in acquiring clear practical knowledge of the subjects.
• The department also gives free training of open source softwares like MATLAB, LABView, SCilab, etc. along with software oriented laboratory experiment classes.
• The departments regularly conducts grooming sessions for the students including group discussions, mock PI s, aptitude classes etc. to help them prepare for placement purposes.
• Apart from classes the department also organizes recreational activities, social and group activities etc.

Departmental Mission and vision

Mission: To produce global professional Electrical Engineers with high human values who are capable of tackling technical problems and contribute towards the continuous upliftment of the society.
Vision: To reach out to the furthest horizons of Electrical Engineering field through our dedicated efforts to bring out the best in the students to cater to the ever changing industrial challenges and social needs.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)

1. PEO-1: Electrical Engineering graduates will be employable in the diversified sectors of the industry, government organizations, public sector and multinational corporations and/or pursue higher education in electrical engineering or other fields of their interests, at institutes of repute and high standard.
2. PEO-2: Graduates will effectively practice as professional engineers, managers, technocrats and leaders in the Electrical Sector.
3. PEO-3: Graduates will demonstrate measurable progress in the fields they choose to pursue
4. PEO-4: Graduates will be influential members of multidisciplinary teams; creatively and effectively contributing to the design, development, and objective evaluation of engineering components, systems, and products; and clearly communicating the work in an appropriate manner to their customers and colleagues.
5. PEO-5: Graduates will personally assume and actively encourage peers to uphold the professional, ethical, social, and environmental responsibilities of their profession

Programme Outcomes (POs)

The program outcomes describe what students expected to know or be able to do by the time of graduation from the program.
After completing the Electrical Engineering course the students will gain -

3. Ability to identify, formulate and solve Electrical Engineering problems in the broad areas like electrical machines, analog and digital electronics, power systems and control systems.

    Department of Electrical Engineering has been established in 2012 with intake of 60 students. Presently the department is well equipped with various laboratories and highly qualified dedicated faculties. Our students are doing very well in the examinations held under both the universities GU & ASTU. The placement record of the first batch to be passed out in 2016 is also good. Our faculties are trying their best to provide quality education along with proper practical knowledge. We hope the performance of our department will make proud the whole GIMT family.

Laboratory

Basic Electrical Engineering: Students of all branches perform experiments on fundamentals in Electrical Engineering in this laboratory.
Electrical Machines: Experiments performed on different types of D.C./ A.C. machines, devices, apparatus etc.
Electrical Measurements and Measuring Instruments: Experiments performed on measuring techniques and measurements using various bridges, methods etc.
Analog Electronics: Experiments performed on various basic electronic biasing circuits.
Power Electronics: Experiments performed on various single-phase and three-phase converter inverter circuits, triggering circuits etc.
Microprocessor: Execute programs based on 8085 µP on a 8085 µP based trainer board - carry out mini projects on 8051 micro-controller based circuits.
Computer Oriented Numerical Methods: C-programs on different numerical methods.
Virtual Control System Laboratory: A laboratory on control system has been set-up which is funded by AICTE (under MODROBS scheme) to carry out the different projects on Electrical as well as Electronics Engineering. This project is implemented using the software named "LABVIEW" which also incorporates real time applications.
The First Year students also attend Physics and Chemistry Laboratories and workshop.
